Guide to Jiu-Jitsu Class Costs

How Much do Jiu-Jitsu Classes Cost for Adults? How much do Jiu-Jitsu Classes Cost for Kids? Here is a guide on what to expect when shopping for a Jiu-Jiu Jitsu Academy.

A Guide to Jiu-Jitsu Class Costs

One of the first questions potential jiu-jitsu practitioners want to know when they call our Academy is: How much does training jiu-jitsu cost?

Although this question seems simple to answer, it is an answer that is best tailored to you and your family’s needs. We usually would go over this in a personalized consultation after you or your children attend a free trial class. Still, I will try to do my best to explain some general pricing guidelines here so you can understand what to expect before trying out your first jiu-jitsu class.

Unfortunately, some people focus only on the monthly price with the goal of finding the cheapest Academy in their area, therefore sacrificing world-class instruction, more available classes for different ages and skill levels, a great family-friendly atmosphere, and outstanding structured curriculums, which inevitably leads to regret – especially considering starting your jiu-jitsu journey in an academy with these attributes is so crucial to long term success.

Some of the most common membership options and fees when joining a Jiu-Jitsu Academy:

  • Month to month options
  • 6, 12, 24 month contracts paid monthly
  • 6, 12, 24 month contracts paid in full
  • Limited attendance options
  • Unlimited attendance options
  • Competition team options
  • Drop in class packages
  • Family discounts
  • Law Enforcement/First Responder discounts
  • Military discounts
  • Enrollment or initiation fees
  • Uniform fees

As you can see, there are many options available that can affect how much training jiu-jitsu will cost for you or your child. When someone comes into our academy for a free trial class, we take pride in finding the best fit for their family’s situation and training goals.

Different age groups have different price ranges.  This is usually due to the number of available classes and the number of classes required to participate in the program.

Here is a breakdown of typical monthly costs to expect for each age group.  Remember, this is also very region specific.  High population areas such as New York, Southern California, and San Francisco Bay Area have a higher cost of living index and therefore higher membership rates.  The rates below are typical for San Jose, Ca which is in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The average price for 3 year old to 5 year old toddler jiu-jitsu classes is $95 – $160 per month depending on how many classes per week they will be attending and commitment time.

The average price for kids jiu-jitsu classes from 5 years old to 16 years old is $149 – $189 per month for basic starter youth jiu-jitsu programs.  There are usually different add-ons that can add to the price, such as unlimited training and competition team programs.

The average price for adult jiu-jitsu classes from 16 years old and up is $159 – $229 per month depending on how many classes you wish to attend per week and commitment time.

These programs can go even cheaper when paid in full or Law Enforcement, Military, First Responder, or multiple family member discounts are applied.

Additional costs to plan for when signing up for jiu-jitsu classes.

Enrollment fees or initiation fees are common in jiu-jitsu academies.  These can range anywhere from $50 to $250 in some cases.

At our Academy, we require a one-time enrollment fee when you sign up.
